OPP Business Plan and Commitments – Specific to the Township of Hamilton
Commitment #1 - Enhanced Radar Patrols
The areas of identified concern (overlap with other commitments) with the speeding of ATV’s in the Bewdley area, speeding through school zones (Plainville area), County Road #18, Upper Cold Springs (County Road #9).
To increase public safety and enhance road safety. The operators must be made aware of the need for safe operation within the requirements of the Highway Traffic Act.
Commitment #2 - Reduction in the use of ATVs on Public Roadways
The use of ATV’s on public roads were identified in Bewdley, Cavan and Rice Lake Roads, Harwood area, and Plainville area. To increase public awareness of the proper and legal usage of ATV’s throughout the Township of Hamilton.
Commitment #3 - Education of Call and Dispatch Procedures and Associated Issues
Perceptions by public of calls for emergency services are better served by calling a local number rather than a toll free location.
Increase public awareness and confidence in the current emergency dispatch systems being used through 911 service and Ontario Provincial Police Emergency numbers.
Commitment #4 - High Visibility Patrols
To enhance visibility and feeling of safety for the residents of the Township and an increase of patrols in hamlets.
Increase patrol vehicle visibility and foot patrols (where applicable) by police officers and Community Policing Volunteers to increase public confidence.
Detachment Initiatives
Road Safety
- To increase public awareness of enforcement activities by RIDE programs 24 hours a day - 7 days a week. With an objective of one RIDE check in each Municipality, minimum of 52 per year.
- Actively participate in the Provincial Initiatives – Seat Belt Campaigns, Aggressive Driving, Operation Corridor, Operation Impact, and Festive RIDE. With a reduction in roadway fatalities due to speed and aggressive driving, due to unbelted vehicle occupants and collisions where alcohol is a factor. Thus supporting the National Road Safety Vision.
Objectives
- Maintain Motor Vehicle Collisions at or below the three-year average rate for each Municipality.
- Maintain Fatal Motor Vehicle Collisions at or below the three-year average for each Municipality.
- Provide public confidence about safe roadways.
